Reinventing the way people see epilepsy.

Epilepsy is common worldwide; why don't we talk about it?

Reinventing the way people see epilepsy.

The Client

The Epilepsy Foundation’s mission is to expand the awareness and research needed to address challenging health problems associated with seizures and epilepsies. The Epilepsy Foundation faced two opposing challenges: a lack of awareness of epilepsy (its symptoms and its prevalence), and a misconception and even fear of seizures that lead to a lack of engagement. How do you get an audience to engage in an issue they don’t understand and/or don’t even want to think about? It was time to reinvent the way people think about epilepsy.

The Work

We conducted 30+ stakeholder interviews with individuals who have or who know someone with epilepsy to understand and break down the stigma around epilepsy. We also conducted 16 stakeholder interviews within the foundation to understand internal blocks and pain points.

After extensive research, we created the End Epilepsy Campaign, which focused on the science of epilepsy. Aiming to rewire the public’s image of epilepsy, the brain and epilepsy’s effect on the brain were the center of this campaign. By educating and expanding the Epilepsy Foundation’s audience we removed the stigma and unlocked engagement. [Insert more concrete results of campaign/info on “let’s use our brains to end epilepsy”]
